Joseph F. Catalano

Joseph Catalano is currently employed as an Applications Analyst for Delta Funding Corp and Fidelity Mortgage. In that capacity he has been involved in web development efforts of the Java EE variety and has led a team developing Java ME solutions for a geographically diverse sales force.
In 2006, Joe completed the Masters of Science degree in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at UMBC. His primary research focus is pattern (aka motif) discovery in real-valued time series. He was advised by Dr. Tim Oates. He is a founding member of the Cognition, Robotics and Learning Lab (CORAL) along with Tom Armstrong and Tim Oates. Prior to taking a position at Delta Funding Corp., he was a lead developer and original member of the development team for the VisARD (Visualization for the Analysis of Relational Data) project; a member of the GI2Vis program. He spent one semester as a teaching assistant for CMSC 471: Artificial Intelligence taught by Marie desJardins, and also taught a section of CMSC 202: Computer Science II - Introduction to Object Oriented Programming and C++).
Prior to joining UMBC, Joe Catalano was an undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science in May 2002. During his tenure at UMass, he was employed as a staff programmer for the Offices of Space Management and Campus Planning as well as an undergraduate research assistant in the Experimental Knowledge Systems Laboratory and an undergraduate teaching assistant for CMPSCI 383: Artificial Intelligence taught by Allen Hanson.
