CMSC 477/677: Topic Summary Assignment
When assigned, you are to write a summary of all
the reading listed in the course schedule.
This assignment is always due at the beginning of class, the day that
we are discussing the topic.
Summaries are to include a 1-2 paragraph description of the work, providing a
high-level synopsis as well pointing out important details.
In addition, provide 1-2 paragraphs of your thoughts on the topic: anything you liked,
anything you would like to criticize, anything you think would be a good extension,
etc.
Finally, you should also provide one "thought provoking question" you may ask the class.
Typically, your summaries should be half a page. Please no more than a page.
If your grammar and spelling is poor, you will be docked points. Please proofread
your summaries before turning them in.
Each summary will be worth 10 points. Grading will be based on how well you grasped
the the material, the thoughtfulness of your comments and critiques and how compelling
your question is.
Note that if you do not take summaries seriously, not only will your Homework portion
of your grade (20%) suffer. It will be obvious that you are not prepared during class
discussion and you may be docked points for class participation.
